Why Is Cockroach Extermination Important
Dealing with cockroaches is important as their colonies can grow rapidly from a small problem to a full blown infestation. In addition it is important to have the problem dealt with as cockroaches are known to be hosts of disease carrying bacteria that can be the cause of salmonella, dysentery, gastroenteritis and diarrhea amongst others. The microorganisms causing these disorders are transported on the bodies and legs of the roach. Bacteria can then be transferred by contact when the roaches walk or feed on kitchen surfaces, utensils or food items. Cockroach control that follows the integrated pest management process can be extremely effective in dealing with roaches and safeguard your family’s health.
In some cases, cockroaches can be the cause of asthma and allergies. Kids, seniors and individuals susceptible to bronchial conditions may be susceptible to the discarded pieces of “skin” or the cockroach body and eggs.
Proper cockroach extermination is also important because these pests are extremely adaptable. Most roaches can feed on almost every type of organic matter. So even if you maintain a clean kitchen, they can still find food sources. They are resilient hitch-hikers and multiply fast. Even the smallest sign of a cockroach infestation should be a good reason to contact a cockroach exterminator to deal with the problem. They are fast breeders; just a handful of roaches can become enormous amounts in only a few days. Sustained sightings of juvenile and adult cockroaches is a pretty good indication that they are breeding successfully. If you decide to deal with the cockroach problem on your own, keep in mind that in some cases roaches even show tolerance to over the counter pest control products and extermination methods.

Remove water sources: Like every other creature cockroaches need water to survive. They prefer warm, damp places to live in. Fix any leaking faucets or areas where water appears to accumulate. Check under your sink as well as this is one of the most commonly infested areas. Make sure that there’s no leaking pipes in your kitchen, toilets and washing areas. If you home has a basement or crawl space, ensure that water drains away and that it is properly ventilated.
Remove shelter: Cockroaches favor small enclosed areas like cracks and crevices. Removing their nesting and mating grounds and favored environment can be an essential feature of roach control. Seal all cracks and crevices in the pantry, toilet and kitchen cabinets, including damaged tiles and splashbacks. Prevent keeping unneeded products, like cardboard boxes, plastic totes in the store and aged toys or clothing.
